But subjectively, I suppose all you have to do is look at some UPS trucks. UPS trucks may be more than 20 years old. They don't expect rapid depreciation in their accounting but go for the long term cost/benefit. They use diesels.

To digress, I wish UPS would publish some figures. Most businesses use 10 years max, 100,000 miles as the life of vehicles. That may have made sense in the 50's, but I know that is not appropriate anymore. I know of far too many POVs with over 200,000 miles.

I've searched the net, haven't found any studies on long term vehicle costs. The daily driver I bought from a city at 10 years, 95k, for $2,200 has cost me about $200 for another 45,ooo miles. Not even tires-yet. They spent $25K for a replacement, their cost per mile is TEN TIMES mine.
