I just picked up a 2000 Ford F-350 Superduty to tow my PWs. Took it in for the required inspection at the local Tire & More store. They said rear pads were 30% and needed to be replaced to pass inspection. Thinking that premium pads would be better than original, I had them ordered and installed.

When I got the truck home the left rear rotor was smoking and burning hot. I took it right back the next morning (24 mile round trip) and had them pull the wheel. I held the still hot caliper ten minutes later while one of the shop hands pressed on the brake pedal. One of the pistons was clearly rusted solid in the bore in the activated position. The shop had failed to check the caliper.

I had the shop install a new caliper just to get me on my way. As soon as I drove it, I could tell the rotor was warped. Only later, did I learn they installed a caliper only, not a new bracket.

After reading John's post, I went to NAPA and bought two lifetime rotors and a full left rear caliper with bracket. I will install the parts myself and put in new flex lines while I'm at it. Next, I'll check the front brakes.

The shop did only what was asked and nothing more, leaving me to foot the bill for their incomplete assessment, and teaching me a valuable lesson in quality.
