The last time someone asked that question, we were told that being afflicted with peripheral neuropathy (numbness in the extremities) precluded the use of the "period" key in favor of the "right carrot" key.
However, in the opinion of certain investigatory-minded members of the Forum, that rationalization lacked credibility, as a careful scrutiny of the standard keyboard reveals that it takes two fingers to make a carrot, and one finger to make a period.
Sometimes detective work can be so gratifying!
