I've never replaced a carb due to 'worn out'.

The major point of wear is the throttle shaft hole. The idle mix screw will adjust for the air leak, but if the wear gets bad enough they can cause an erratic idle when the throttle plate sticks in the bore at an unusual attitude. Otherwise, it ain't' wore out. Most of that wear is caused by the return spring. FFPWs with the return spring on the linkage away from the carb don't wear there, leaving only the vacuum sucking down on the plate to cause the load.

Why pay up to $300 for a carb that somebody else put a $25 kit into, that may have been a core that was worn out worse than mine? I would helicoil some screw holes, re-bush the shafts by drilling and tapping for an 1/8" pipe fitting, and reaming back to standard.

Also sand all the mating surfaces flat on a piece of sandpaper stuck to a piece of glass or a table saw table. Just rub until the whole surface is shiny. That will eliminate the warpage caused by years of tight screws compressing gaskets.

But there's thems with money to spend, and theres us with time, who like to say "I did it".

"Some people have called me a cynic. I didn't believe them, they lied".
