Over 50 Ethanol projects have been cancelled in the US in the past several months. (ie Cargill cancelled a $200M project in Topeka, KS). The unforeseen cost increase in the price of Corn ($2/Bushel in 2006 compared to $5.25/bushel today), and all related issues in corn production, has raised the price of the raw materials to an extent that the long term profit has been reduced making it an inefficient technology.
