The M37 Manual for 9.625" differentials says to measure between the 5/16" bolts that retain the bearing adjuster locks. You measure prior to setting preload/lash. Then as you adjust preload the case will spread. You measure until you have the spec in the manual for that differential. M37/PW is .012-.014" case spread.

The bearing caps are torqued to 101 foot pounds on a 9.625" differential, per the M37 differential manual. But follow the shop manual for when to tighten the bearing caps to torque. On M37/PW, they are not both tightened at the same time.

I wish I had high speed internet, I would scan the shop manual section on differentials and email it to you. I cant even think about doing that at 24.4K sorry.
