First of all, thanks for the assistance on my first question. Between the Dodge military manual and a 1950 copy of Motors, I was able to figure out the proper procedures to assemble the differential.

I have reinstalled the differential carrier, pinion, and adjusted the side bearing adjusters to set the backlash to between 0.005" and 0.010".

I am uncertain of the side bearing preload, though. The manual calls for 0.010" of tension, but I don't know how and where to measure this tension. The carrier seems to spin relatively freely, given the weight of the parts. Addditionally, does anyone know off the top of their heads what to torque the side bearing cap bolts?

The next step is to see if the pinion and ring gear teeth are meshing correctly.

Thanks in advance.

Dave (one step closer to getting the show back on the road)
