As for economy, a diesel will always get better fuel economy than a gasser, the heavier the vehicle the more the advantage.
Diesel would have to cost $1.50 a gallon more than gas to give gas an advantage.
In a truck driven as a hobby it's hard to say what the advantage is unless you run bio-diesel or SVO, but in a daily driver, gasoline is DOA.
