Not all had hardened seats. ALL flatheads had hardened seats from about 1933 onward. Slant 6 never had hardened seats. I don't think the standard 318s ever did either. Waht they did on the slant and the small block was flame harden the valve seat area. I have a 1987 1/2 ton with slant and many many miles it misses because of the valves.
I read a bunch of articles about unleaded in engines without hardened seats and the consensus was not to worry, just run lead substitutes occasionaly. maybe every 4 or 5000 miles. Or if rebuilding engine have hardened seats installed
