Chris Smith ( Mr Chris Craft) used many engines over the years in his boats;
Hercules, Chrysler, Kermath, Scripps, Sterlings, Smith-Curtis Wright OX-5 Aircraft modified for marine, Chris Craft's own design 90 degree V8 with 200 hp weighing almost 2000 pounds. In the 20's and early 30's Chris Smith and Gar Wood teamed together to build Chris Craft race boats. Some of these were multi engine Gar Wood designs in Gold Cup boats, the fastest in the world. Engines used in Chris Craft boats is complex answer.
My own Chris's used Chrysler Crowns, Aces, Royals and Majestic. Two of my Chris's had Chevy 283's
