You're operating under a false reality, the government can't do anything but screw up the market place.
You've been brain washed by liberal propaganda into believing several false premises, including the lie that we are running out of oil and the bogus concept that government can control the marketplace.
We aren't and it can't.
All the government can do is burden the costs, and restrict development.
There is more oil in Alaska and off of our shores than we have yet used. Scientist can't agree upon the source or the cause of oil. Fields that were depleted in the 50's and 60's are coming back and producing again. Basins pumped dry are now found to be replenishing. Several planets and moons in our solar system have been found to be 80% or more carbon and oil, how many dinosaurs were out there???
We know so little about things and most of what we know is wrong.
Do we need to be prudent with our resources? Certainly. Can or should the government mandate public consumption? No.
If a person can afford an SUV that gets 4 miles per gallon so be it, if fuel is $5 per gallon, so be it, when the price gets higher than the majority can pay, they'll stop buying and the price will drop.
Adjusted for inflation, fuel is cheaper now than it was in the 1970's.
Do I hope that Americans get their heads out of their butts and go 100% diesel so we can save 35-40% of our fuel daily? Sure.
Buy your Prius, get a bike, but leave me alone!
