is that the oil companies are making their own case for the feds to step back in and re-regulate that industry.

I believe that oil directly affects our national security, and as such should not be open to manipulation or private profits.

When Carter deregulated the oil industry, he did so to enable capital investment that would spur additional exploration.

While that has been achieved, we are now at the point where unchecked corporate greed is having a direct tangible impact on our economy and subsequently the health of our nation as a whole.

While I don't like regulations any more than any of you, I do believe they have their place and we are at that point.

It's pretty clear that, when left up to the bean counters in Corporate America, they are not able to regulate themselves.

Further, it's flat not right that speculators in the commodity markets are profiting on the pain of the average John Q Public when John Q has no choice when it comes to buying gasoline and heating oil.

Just my opinion...
