At this very moment, over on one of the other Power-Wagon dedicated forums; there is a very heated political discussion brewing. It has a very high entertainment factor, not unlike a pro wrestling match, or a monster truck car-smashing event, if you happen to find stimulation from those kinds of events.

Though somewhat entertaining, I find it all very confusing. I have never been able to figure out exactly what the fundamental differences are between Liberals and Conservatives, Democrats and Republicans. They all appear the same to me. And does the act of one calling themselves a Republican automatically make them a Conservative, or vise versa?

I graduated from a Technical College several years ago. I made a friend in class. He and I were the two oldest students in attendance there. He was slightly over 40 years of age and I was slightly under. We supported each other through our studies, and with our age-based experience, commitment, and shear determination, we were the only two students from that class to graduate with 4.00 GPA and perfect attendance records. We ended up employed by the same Engineering firm shortly after graduation. He and another gentleman that worked there soon found out that they shared the same political beliefs and would discuss them all night long during their shift. I overheard all of this and one night offered my input when asked about a particular issue. My stand apparently went against the established grain, as it did not agree with where those two stood. That was my only mistake, but from that point on, I as no longer considered a friend to either of them.

As I mentioned earlier, I am finding all of this very confusing. Do I vote to fit in, or do I vote my conscience? I have a pretty good track record at the polls. A very, very high percentage of the candidates that I have voted for have actually won office. A record that I have not always been the most comfortable with later down the road. Many times I have found myself thinking, “Just what the heck WAS I thinking.” This is not at all helped by the fact that only two candidates remain come November and I always feel that I am voting for the lessor of two evils. Four or six choices would probably not net better results, but at least perhaps they would provide more “choices”.

I certainly don’t trust ANYTHING I hear from ANY of the media. I know where I stand on the issues, so my question here is this: Is there some sort of litmus test out there, a compiled list of questions about where I stand on the issues, that I can answer in order to determine once and for all what I am, Conservative, Democrat, Republican, or Liberal?

I really need to know because are my offers to answer Power-Wagon Forum questions not welcome if my political beliefs are not in line with the majority of those here? How can I tell where I fit in when the whole show appears to be scripted simply for entertainment?
