My grocery store doesn't reflect that kind of an increase. Dairy is up but there is more going on there than the cost of corn.
The guy paying the price for the raw materials (corn) has little control over the price of the end product. The price of beef after it ate the corn and before it was butchered is very close to the same as it was a year ago and also the year before that.
Most of us at the producing end understand that price swings (on what we buy and sell) like we are seeing now are temporary and will probably go the other way before long.
If they don't then and only then can you blame the the price of corn on the retail price increases as more and more of us get out of the business.
By the way, your food is still a bargain compared to the rest of the world. Somebody want to do the inflation adjustment on the the cost of a pound of hamburger or a loaf of bread or a gallon of milk.
I learned a long time ago that a little rant on an internet forum isn't going to change anyone's mind. As you guys know I like ethanol as a fuel, but don't like way the way the situation with the change has been handled so I don't get very carried away until I see facts that aren't really facts used as a basis for arguement. In 2 or 3 years you can tell me if it was the price of corn or speculation, transportation, labor costs, greed, any of the dozen other factors that raised the cost of your grocery bill right now.
By the way, I'll agree to a 10% increase in total grocery cost, but not triple. Just sounded like a cheap shot at farmers and stock growers and the decisions we have to make every year. Find an different arguement, like subsidies instead of unbiased research is my favorite, anyone want to comment.
