This vehicle is possible today with the use of the stock six or the V/8. A few of you are correct, the answer lies in the transfer case. The stock rear axle ratio (583) Needs to be redused to around a 4.00 to allow the six to still have an acceptible toqure curve given its limited amount of it. This may cause you to use more of your lower gears in the transmission but thats going to be the nature of the beast. After all we are trying to increase MPH at aaan acceptable RPM. Doing the math it seems the ratio ths is needed is about .68 overdrive. Those of you with a six and stock 35" tires are looking at a final gear ratio of 3.96 which allows 65MPH @ 2500 RPM. With the 38" tires its 65MPH @ 2300 RPM. Now for you V/8 guys I would recomend the jump to 4.89 gears in your axle housing because of the additional toqure in the V/8. You now have a 3.32 final drive ratio running 65MPH @ 2100Rpm with stock tires & 1900Rpm with 38" tires. You ask how to change the ffpw transfer case over, you don't. Pull it and set it aside . You need a three speed transfer case and there is one with the ratio described above, and not only that but the low side is 3.75 for crawling. So now you maintain your stock 5.83 (no changing axle gears) you get a respectible O.D. gear and now a low gear of just over 140.1. This transfer case is made by Stak which some of you may have herd of (www.stak4x4.com) but the don't list this ratio on there web site but it is avalible. All CNC ,32 spline shafts in and out Weigh about the same as an NP200, shaft center lines the same case just a little thicker to allow for the extra set of gears. I have bought one of these an the workmanship is Class A. I ordered mine as the divorced front and with the disc brake on the back. These two features are an option and it does drive out of the center. I have a centered rear diff. the cats meow. Cost around $3200.
