Yes, measure exactly as you will have to move the spring pads some. You must also be absolutely accurate that you achieve the same
angle on the differential housing face, relative to the spring pads. Go here for a good presentation on centerd rear axles. There are different types and Ray covers them.

Do you Have TM-9-1808C Power Train and Interchanges; Military/Civilian Trucks, 1941 to 1971 Dodge ? It is *critical !* that you understand when 3 differential gaskets are required in this conversion.
