With the 318/np435 and 4.89's with 11.00 Michelins I find that low(first, granny whatever you want to call it) gear starts are the norm. It takes off from a dead stop with alot less effort(lower rpm's get it moving). I have'nt taken the gps out with me and checked rpm's vs. speed but it moves at apx. 50-55 without sounding like it's straining/pushing the motor.
A huge improvement over the original six!
