Used to work on lots of both. Aside from being governed, the one thing that sticks out in my mind was most industrial engines had full skirt pistons. Automotive stuff, from the dawn of the overhead valve V8s in the early to mid 50s began to shed reciprocating mass to gain RPM and lightening up the 'slugs' was one of the best ways to do it.Half skirt pistons only have skirt on the two thrust surfaces of the piston where it matters most to keep the piston stable in the cylinder. Now there's a thought! Keith Black Hypereutectic featherweight slugs for a 230 flattie! Let the good times roll...
