They get so gunky that the 1500 psi pedal pressure can move them out, but the 75# of spring pressure can't pull them in.

Has it been more than a decade since the wheel cyls have been re-built? If you pull the drums, and snap open a rubber cap on the cylinder, it should seep brake fluid. No seep is a sign of gunked-y-up. I just did the cyls on my '53 last week. L/R was stuck, had to hammer it apart for rebuild. Bores still slick on them all, after about 20 years. Kits were $13 each at Napa.
