This has been discussed numerous times on the forum with as many opinions. Others that do conversions say the same thing, that it's "a matter of feel" with the bearing adjustments. I once owned a 48 Jeep 4X4 truck that used tappered rollers top and bottom and it required 25 feet lbs of preload.

The G502 for 3/4 Ton WC's shows knuckle flange bearing numbers as:

upper 925004 superceded by 927014
lower 927014 supercedes bearing 925004

So for upper and lower bearings on the 3/4 Ton WC, bearing 927014 is used. Tappered roller 927104 cross-references to BCA number 23100. Now that we know what bearing is used (upper/lower BCA 23100), let discuss the proper feet lbs.

The War Department's Technical Manuals, TM 9-1808B and TM 9-808 cover the maintenance/repair of the 3/4 Ton and 1.5 Ton WC. Both these manuals state the specifications for knuckle bearing preload adjustment - 25-27.5 feet lbs

Now that we know the authority for proper adjustment, I think it would be best to follow it. I don't believe that "feel" could ever be a standard because my feel and someone elses' is not going to be the same. There has to be defined specs.

I suggest anyone wanting to do this get the manuals, do the research and decide for themselves what they want to do, and how to do it.
