Battery question

I have a 61 Triumph TR3a that I have owned since High School. About 20 years ago I began a frame off restoration. Got the body work and painting all done "professionally" and it all looked good until the body went back on the frame. That is when it became very apparent that there are many degrees of "professional" and this guy is really at the shallow end of the pool. Of course he is a neighbor about a mile away, captain of the Volunteer Fire Dept. etc so it didnt seen like a good idea to make a big fuss about it although in hindsight I should have made a bigger deal of it. At any rate, I fussed with it for a while and got totally disgusted and discouraged with it and let it sit. A couple of years ago a friend convinced me to get back into it and we ended up cutting several of the "pro's" welds apart and shifting things arounf to get the correct alignment. Naturally it will require a new paint job. Then I interupted work on the Triumph to do the V-8 conversion on the Power Wagon. This fall I bought the 57 W-100 which will be getting a frame off resto too. But I dont have room to do that until the Triumph is completed so that is this winters project, and it is coming along quite nicely.
So here is the battery question. Back about 10 years ago give or take, one of my British parts suppliers had 12 volt batterys, new, but with the old tar tops and the lead conductors along the top, as would have come in the 50's and early 60's. I bought one, it was shipped dry and I got some acid and charged it up. Now fast forward ten or so years, it is quite low or even dry of acid and naturally flat. Is it possible to resurrect this battery? New acid and long charge time? Or do I scrap it and put in a modern battery and be done with it? Sorry for the long post!
Thanks,
Tim
