Most of the 1/2t WC that I had, had a 'turns them 90 degrees, and angles them' cast iron adapter between manifold and carb.
Plus some 230s out of car had a different linkage. It came up over the head from the drivers foot pedal, and had a vertical pivot shaft screwed into the head. There is a cap screw above #5 that gets the stud. It's 3/8x16, and is a coolant vent, leaks if removed.
Maybe you have mixed apples and oranges?
