We do not build them just because we can. Our customers need them for speciallized applications, and we take great care in providing exactly the correct combination of features.
The point is to provide a short wheel base, easy to maneuver platform for a slide-in forest firefighting unit or high-water rescue vehicle.
The payload is 2/4 tons, reduced from 2.5/5, on/off road, respectively.
With only four wheels on the ground, it has much less chance of getting hung up in rough terrain.
It gets 11 to 13 MPG.
Since there are so many of them, we don't think that anyone in the next 100 years or so will decry what we do to them.
But you're certainly entitled to your opinion.
