I was with a friend of mine driving 7 beaten-up old muscle cars from Oklahoma to Toronto about 10years ago, we showed up at the border with the cars, showed them the original ownerships, filed out some customs and tax forms and we were back on the road a couple hours later.

It is possible to get a car from the states to canada without too much headaches, but you have to contact a transport company that has customs-bonds agents (i think thats what its called). It'll cost $500+ (ontop of the transport fees) to have them do the paper work. so its not cheap. but it could be a last resort if the paper work is too thick for a regular person to do.
