Chris, 1st let me tell you your dodge looks great. I am on the other side of the earth in Florida, but I would suggest that after you change the points, condensor, etc, I would think about crud in the fuel tank or fuel lines, or maybe a weak fuel pump. You can check the fuel pressure output. (not sure the pressure, someone here will know )My next suggestion would be the carb. I have played with these dodges 30 years. I am no expert, but I have, in the past, done the garage work bench carb rebuild routine... You get ok success, better than before, but not primo... Well, I currently have a 1/2 ton wc4, pretty much nicely restored, with what at one time was a rebuilt carter DTA4 carb on her. I began noticing some hesitation taking off, just above idle. She would run down the road great. The other issue was that when taking my foot off the gas peddle when cooming to a stop, she just would not idle down, and I would have to tap the peddle to get down to the real idle speed. I bit the bullet and had another DTA4 professionaly rebuilt by an old time carb guy. He took it all apart and rebuilt everything for $ 180.00 and I mean everything. The problems I had were all related to internal wear on the carb. The accelerator pump, jets, gaskets, etc. But a lot of it had to do with wear in the shafts, and the holes in the carb body the shafts go through. Like for the butterfly to linkage shaft etc. Sloppy internal tolerances from wear. Another thing that is important is to have no vacume leaks, like on the carb base, manifold, etc. Get some starting fluid and with the truck running, spray it on the manifold and carb at the gaskets, and see if the idle picks up. If so, you have a vacume leak. Have a fire extinguisher standing by just in case. With all that checked, I still highly recommend a professional carb rebuild. Many can do it, but I used a guy near me that is an older guy with lots of experience. He has done many carter dodge carbs and many old jeep carbs especially WWII stuff, and I highly recommend him. He does it from home, and is not a commercial shop, and he will ship UPS. Turn around is just a few weeks. His name is Jim Wallace, and he is in Pensacola, Florida. His numbers are
Home 850-944-5977, and Cell 850-261-2718. He did a great job on my carb and I highly recommend him. All my carb issues went away. You can tell him you got his number from Bob Stopka in Panama City, who owns the WC4 with the DTA4 he rebuilt for me last year. If you call him and decide to use his service, be sure to have him install the old original style needle and seat, as they seem to work better. It was money well spent. Let us know how you make out. You can call me if you have any questions on my cell,
