Pumps put out flow. Restrictions cause the pressure to rise, to the extent of the pump's design.

Doubling the speed of the pump makes double the flow, so double the pressure with the same restriction.

In my case, idling at 300 rpm makes 1 psi. Rev to 3,000, or ten times the speed, makes ten times the pressure, or TEN psi. With NO r-a-d-i-a-t-o-r cap on the truck. This is called "block pressure". The pressure drops on the other side of the restriction- in this case, the thermostat. It drops to ZERO, because I had no r-a-d-i-a-t-o-r cap on the truck. But yes, it still had T-E-N psi in the block.

Geez, Norm, I thought you would understand fluid dynamics. Or did you only get as far as "*hit runs down hill"?
