The deal with the cattle ear tags is legit. It is an outgroth of the Mad Cow scare. They have to be really sticky about tracking shipped cattle (and other livestock, because if Mad Cow comes up again it would be a catastrophy to the farm economy of Canada, and the U.S.
Speaking of insurance, I use a major firm, State Farm for my "regular" vehicles, but it appeared that they are not as "set up" on antique vehicles. For example I could not get insurance to protect my PW while it was in the shed being restored. I went with an antique vehicle insurance company for that, Hagerty to protect it from fire, storm damage, etc.
