The first series tailgate looks slightly different compared to the 2nd and 3rd series bed's tailgates, in regard to the shape and size of the "Dodge" script.
I am not sure about the tailgate itself being different though with its dimension, etc. The brackets are slightly different for the tailgates also, but I am not sure of how this might impact which one is chosen.
