Also look at corn husk...same properties. It removes paint of sheetmetal without any damage to shheetmetal, rubber, glass etc.
They sell it here & I'm sure they sell it down your way. I've never noticed a difference between Soda, Corn or Walnut.
None will touch rust.
The environmentalists are hard on any blasting. It's not the media that's an issue...it's the material that's flying into the atmosphere that they've got an issue with. Silica sand is the only one that I know to be a dangerous in itself.
