When I had my 230 stock flathead rebuilt, the machinist balanced it. He told me it was easy to do when it was apart and not much extra to do as far as cost.
At idle now, there is no perceptable vibration, it really purrs.
If someone got a 4 BT - or any engine for that matter - and needed a rebuild, I wonder if it would not be smart to have it balanced at the same time?
