Where I am standing is almost directly under the location of the aircraft in this photo. Note the barracks at the left, those are behind the kid in the first photo.
Ft Myer has a lot of history, it was built in 1863 on the Curtis-Lee plantation, overlooking Washington DC, the plantation became Arlington Cemetery.
Martha Curtis was George Washington's wife, Lee was a signer of the declaration, but descendant Robert E. Lee joined the Confederacy and the plantation was confiscated by the Union.
