Rustoleum (I believe) makes a paint that is available at most paint suppliers called Hammered finish. It comes in spray cans or by the quart, etc. I have use it on exposed steel hardware on houses for years. Recently I built a rear bumper and a lumber rack for my'98 Ram plow truck, and brushed on two coats of this stuff. They recommend second coating within a short period (maybe 1 hour? Can't remember) or after 48 hours. The stuff is quick drying and very tough and has an interesting finish to it. It serves as it's own primer, too. Try it, you'll like it. 8-)
