ALWAYS paint all of the components FIRST!
Then assemble, then touch up if required.
All of the parts normally get painted or coated first before assembly.
Check out any restoration shop, hot rod or bike or whatever. If the parts are assembled prior to finish, it's only to check the fit, then the parts are disassembled and painted, prior to assembly.
Only Detroit and budget paint shops do it backwards....who wants painted gaskets.....= )
