Someone asked me privately what a slave cable is, so I figured I'd explain to those of you who are not familiar with that terminology:
The military refers to jumping a battery as "slaving".
Slave cables are jumper cables, but both conductors are in the same sheath, like a big fat extension cord. The ends, instead of having alligator clips, have a mil-spec two-pin plug (male) that plugs into every M-series truck equipped with the female receptacle. Everything from mules to jeeps to 2.5, 5 and 10-tons, and stationary equipment like generators and compressors, have the receptacle. The ends look a bit like the jumper cables that tow trucks use.
Some guys buy take-off military receptacles, and mount them on civvie trucks, so they can use the cables. There is a later version, known as a NATO version, which has a coaxial plug, instead of the two-pin plug. There are adapters that allow the older two-pin cables to plug into NATO trucks and equipment.
