Its possible to get a lamp out and still have the lamp burning. The lamps used have a sensor that is used by the computer to know when a lamp is out. If the socket gets dirty or however they sense the lamp goes out, you will get the Lamp Out Light. I had a Lamp Out Light with the lamp burning. Changed the lamp and all was back to normal. If your a TDR member, do a search on Lamp out and you will find a lot of posts. Also there are two types of lamps sold. From memory, one uses plastic as a base insulator, the other uses glass. The plastic are known to fail early. When you put a new lamp in the socket, use dielectric grease and it will last longer. Once i ken what was causing the problem, I changed all my rear lamps before they had this problem as they are not user friendly to get at.
