Hi Folks,

I recently bought a 3/4 ton 6 volt M37 (for $200 I might add) that I plan to use as a general purpose vehicle on my woodlot in Maine. I was told by the previous owner that the engine was not the original and came out of a 49 Plymouth. The carburetor however appears to be military and is a model ETW1. The motor starts and seemed to idle OK. However after taking it on it's first maiden jaunt up a hill the engine quit. I was able to get it restarted numerous times but when I stepped on the gas it stalled. Finally I wasn't able to start it at all. After rolling back to the place where I started and after popping the hood, I noticed gas leaking from around the top of the carb. I was finally able to get it started but it would idle rough and it seemed to leak quite a bit. After repeated taps on the side of the carb with a screwdriver, the engine settled in to an even keeled idle and the leaking seemed to have slowed down as well. To save money and time I opted only to buy a gasket replacement kit so as to avoid a complete carb rebuild. I haven't had a chance yet to replace the gaskets but can anyone comment as to what I might expect after replacing these gaskets.

Thanks,

Al
