The 4B is a normally aspirated four cylinder. The 4BT is a turbocharged four cylinder.
The 4BTA is a turbocharged and aftercooled four cylinder.

When I purchased my motor from The Foot last year, I got a 4BT-A which is an automotive version of the 4BT which is rated at 105hp@2500rpm that has a rear sump oil pan.

A 4BT-A set up for an electrical fan with a Chevy bellhousing (such as that used to mate to a SM465 in a bread van) is seven inches shorter than the front of the fan to the back of the bellhousing on a Dodge T245 (M37 230).

In putting one into a 1953 M37, I put a custom built Advance Adapters Ranger III Overdrive between the bellhousing and the stock transmission in the M37. I did not have to relocate the transmission or the transfer since the Ranger OD served as an adapter between the bellhousing and the transmission. I did have to lift the front end two inches.

Send me an email if you want specific dimensions to compare to your engine bay, or get a copy of Cummins 4B3.9 fitment dimensions from the 4B3.9 basic informational sales manual available for free from your dealer or from Cummins' web site.
