You can't hammer it out from the other side as
this is a 4 spider rear end with 2 short cross
shafts, a long cross shaft and a solid thrust
block in the center. You need to pull the carrier
out and disassemble it to get the broken stub out.
According to "Motor's" disassembly consists of
putting the carrier in a vise and drilling out
the "cap lock pins" that hold the end on then
heating it with a torch until it is hot enough to
melt solder then unscrewing the "cap" (end cover)
with a special chrysler tool that looks like a
piece of pipe with 3, 1/3 of the diameter of the
tool/pipe notches in the end (to fit into grooves in the
"cap"). This is a VERY good argument for NOT
breaking axle shafts. Neat idea, huh!?
