The steering gear I'm referring to is 47 only (I think)and in 4x2's. The column should swap in to a 1/2 ton WC 4x4. Having both early ('41) and late ('47) W series trucks and a '41 1/2 ton wc I have found the roller used in the cross gear provides for much easier effort than frictional tooth contact of the earlier gears on the worm.
Later B series 2x4's use a cross steering setup with a totally different gear, wheel and column.
