You can use a 12V GM single wire alternator. These have the internal regulator. Bend up some 3/16 flat steel and bolt it together for the bracket. Try it to make sure the alignment is right. Then weld the steel together to make a solid bracket. It has worked well for me. I assume you assume you want to upgrade to 12V. Some light bulbs and gauges will have to be changed also. The 6V starter will work well.
