I talked to the guy who owned my '53 B3-PW most of its life, and he told me about some others in his area that he kept an eye on over the years. They are all gone now, and the last ones were used in junk yards with gin poles to hoist engines and transmissions out of wrecks. He said they realized early on that the winch was not the limit, so they kept piling junk in the beds to allow lifting heavier and heavier engine/transmission loads without the rear end coming up. Well, eventually something has to go, and it was the front axle bushings. So beware if you have to put weight in the back to keep the rear wheels on the ground when using a gin pole that you may be taxing the front bronze wheel bushings beyond their endurance.
