The only difference in the 1/2 ton WC axles is that the Command Car used 14" brake drums on the rear. I'm not sure if any others did. The standard drum is smaller, like 10" or 11", same as the front axle.

As for the "55 mph", that is the absolute maximum speed. It is not a wise idea to run that sustained. It puts a stain on the engine, which was not designed to rev that high. Also, I've heard rumors, but no confirmation, that the 1/2 ton axles do not splash lube properly at high speeds. Again, I have not been able to confirm this. The solution for 55 mph is to put on the later M37 or PW style Budd wheels and mount either 9.00x16's or 11.00x16's.
