Dave,

Spicer and Dana are the same. I think the companys merged some years ago. The W-300's came with 4.10, 4.88, or 5.87 axels acording to the factory sevice manuals (get one of these!) All three of my W-300's have 4.88's. Usually the labels will show 5.87, not 58. Look on the axels for a metal tag 1/2" by 1" under one of the differential cover bolts. These will show the gear count and ratio, i.e. "39-8, 4.88". The front axel is the best bet, as they are less frequently rebuilt and hence less prone to loosing the tag. Next step is to pull the cover and look at the ring gear. This will have the gear count stamped in it if I remember correctly. Also, some parts can be had from Spicer Dana dealers, find the assy number stamped on the front of the axel tube on the left side between the U-bolts. Should be #03-402-9. Also can get parts from West Coast Differentials in Sacramento, CA 800-510-0950. Eric was very helpful.
