lot of folks. i need a full size suburban type vehicle. cant get it in a dodge - likely never will. long island has lots of parkways so a pickup is out unless it is a 1500 series. 2500 is illegal if you register it correctly (state the actual weight etc) and once you take the cap off, its illegal again. additionally, i like the fully enclosed body style. i have sat in and almost pulled the trigger on the dodge cummins trucks, but besides the drivetrain, im not impressed. the gmc product is way better laid out. im on my third personal gmc and am experiencing 200k miles of trouble free driving on each truck. i sell them at that point only because i know an engine job or tranny job would not make economic sense on a 200k vehicle. i buy them used with 20-30k miles from a gmc dealer and let the first owner take the hit. my method works for me. whatever savings in fuel i might have with a diesel (none now bc its more than reg gas) are negated by a lower cost of ownership AND i enjoy a better laid out vehicle every day. i agree, the cummins truck is tops when it comes to drivelines, but unless you need a 3500 cummins equipped tow vehicle (likely a work truck for your owner operated business) or an ego boost, a gmc is a better purchase for MY use. there are many more users of the suburban body type vehicle and if dodge wants to survive, they really need to compete in that market. a cummins equipped suburban body vehicle would likely introduce tons of new buyers to dodge.
