Just to correct that, Hunting Mountain Lions in California is illegal. It was voted on by the citizenry many years ago, and is not subject to any Department of Fish and Game input. In fact, since the Mtn Lion population has grown so immensly in California, the DFG would like to have limited hunting to save the dwindling herds of Blacktail and Mule Deer. During times of plenty, it is said that a Mtn Lion will eat a deer a week.
And Yes, hunting bear with dogs (without radio collars) is allowed in California up until 1700 bears have been killed. The bear population is way up here too. In the Tahoe region, it is up so much so that they are now taking garbage into the woods to keep the bears out of the neighborhoods.
