There seems to be a trend of using very large caliber bullets to take down relatively small game. I know a bobcat is quite a bit smaller, but they are no match for a 22LR. A mountain lion is not that big, usually smaller than a buck, and I know for a fact that a buck can be brought down with a 22LR. If you see a cat, and need to dispatch it, then a 22WMR will work. If you plan on going hunting, then take something else because the effectiveness of a 22WMR goes down considerably with range. A friend of mine took the Nevada state record lion with a 223, which many consider way too small.

So technically, yes a 22WMR would kill a lion. It's not exactly the best choice, but it will do the job.
