Another method, if you can get at the ring gear easily, is to jam a pry-bar into the ring gear, up against the housing somehow. That makes it a 2-person operation, though. You can also sometimes jam something up into the clutch pressure plate through the access hole. Or you can just ram the bolt in good and tight with an impact wrench and call it good.
