When I do this, I usually have a lot of the rest of the truck torn apart. If you don't already, it does not take very long to pull out the floor sections and center hump. Pull the whole top of the transmission off and move the sliding gears so that the transmission is in reverse and one forward gear at the same time. Now in doing this, assuming you have a clutch that does not slip, your crankshaft is locked tight in position. You can torque that nut down properly and NOTHING will move.
