For a while now the card companys are raising rates to the maximum even if you are not late on their card. You may be late on another card, have "too much outstanding credit available" or other fine print.
Good idea to cut at least most of them up and close the account.
Funny story: I cancelled a card a couple of years ago and started playing with the gal on the phone who is trained to keep me at all costs. When she got around to telling me how my credit score would be ruined if I cancelled the card, I said I had something that would get me the lowest interest rate on a house loan already. She got half snooty and asked what that is and when I replied "COLLATERAL" she argued no more and cancelled my card.
