Martin, have you looked at the Centerforce web site?
My book doesn't cover trucks as new as 1971, so I can't help much, what transmission?
Spline count and diameter? It should be 1.38" diameter with 10 splines, both the 11" and 12" fit inside the hydraulic bell, which was the standard bell for that truck until at least '67, so I can't say for sure (do you still have a hydraulic bell or is it mechanical?)
I would think that Centerforce would have the type of clutch you like and the correct lb. pressure plate to insure the proper action.
There should not be much difference between the '72 and '71.
Major changes were made in frame, body and 2WD suspension, but the engine and transmissions were virtually untouched, except for the addition of the 360LA, which is identical in application to the 318 (except for internal/external balancing).
Since you have a 383 and that means a BB bell, you may have additional options and only have to worry about matching the trans.
The specs on the different clutches used with the hydraulic bell show the same specs for throw, travel, and clearance, so you may be OK with any 383/440 application that fits your trans.
Talk to the tech reps at Centerforce and see if they can walk you through it.
